Blue Justice

What is ‘Blue Justice’?

As the ‘Blue Economy’ develops, exploitation and pressure on the world’s oceans is increasing, a process known as ‘Blue Growth’. This can jeopardize the rights and traditional access of small-scale fishers and coastal communities to their resources and compromise their livelihoods and ways of life. ‘Blue Justice’ refers to all efforts to maintain the rights of fisherfolk in the face of threats from ‘Blue Growth’.

FisherFolkFirst and Blue Justice

Striving for Blue Justice lies at the heart of everything FisherFolkFirst does. To do this effectively in the Turks and Caicos Islands, and to make sure that we are prioritising the right areas, it was necessary to carry out a comprehensive study of the Blue Justice issues in the country. Much of this work was conducted in collaboration with ‘Too Big To Ignore‘ and contributes to the understanding of Blue Justice for small-scale fisherfolk globally.
